Household appliances and motor vehicles

Household decision-makers were asked about their ownership of appliances and motor vehicles that would influence their household’s use of energy and production of waste and greenhouse gas emissions.

In the last 12 months, more households (43% in 2008, 48% in 2009) reported using more than one fridge or stand-alone freezer and more than one television set (58% in 2008, 64% in 2009).

Most households use gas for their hot water (up 3% to 69% in 2009), compared to households with electric (27%) and solar (3%) hot water systems.
